Well, we’ve been here for a while, but we haven’t exactly washed our clothes… It is something we’ve been putting off, as the original plan was to spend 14 days here, but it seems like we’ll be here a bit longer. That meant that we could no longer put off washing, but since this is a summer home usually used for shorter stretches of time, there is no washing machine.
Now I don’t know if any of you have ever hand-washed 2 people’s clothes, but it is not a small job by any means. I have never appreciated a seemingly simple invention like the washing machine before, but now I had to realize what a massive time-saver it is. Seriously, if we are staying here for another 2 weeks, I’ll just have to order a washing machine…
Next project: clearing between the rows of grapes. The grapes here are really old, with a lot of the posts falling over, lots of rocks between them, all of which need to be cleared out before I can ride around with the little lawnmower. Interestingly, I also found some big antlers… No animal attached to it luckily, as it is a natural process for deer to shed antlers in the spring before the new ones grow.
I trust Aisling with tools and DIY projects more than any of my male friends, but using the chainsaw was new for her, so we had a little chainsaw tutorial in the evening, as well as some testing of our new log-splitting ax. With a 2.5 kilo head, it has quite some swing to it… But it is also a tough workout! If you ever want to experience what “beast mode” feels like, grab a big ax and split some logs!
