While in yesterday’s post I’ve been trying to be all helpful and provide resources against the boredom of being locked in at home, today I just want to talk about the simple joys of life. Finally, the sunshine is back and we’ve been trying to enjoy every second of it. Still cold, but it is a massive improvement and if things continue like this, we may even get a suntan by the end of our time here.
The whole point of us being down at Lake Balaton (other than to protect our family in case we had the virus when coming home) is to enjoy the outdoors, even if we can’t go too far. Finally having the good weather means we can spend more time outside, so we went exploring. We walked to the forest and out to the nearby plains, soaking in the views and petting the cute puppy we met along the way. Luckily pets don’t need social distancing.
Now why is a 10+ km walk such a big deal? Well, because it might be the last one we get for a while. Hungary is going into lockdown soon, which means we’ll have to stay at home, unless it’s for access to essentials or going to work. Now unfortunately trail running and hiking don’t count as essentials, and despite being harmless (as we never meet anyone out here), we’ll have to hold off on them for a while. In other news it also means that we’ll be down here for more than two weeks, in fact maybe up to a month or more, which will be quite interesting.
Which brings me to another question – is there any point in writing a daily blog for over two weeks? My initial thought is no. I will complete the two weeks of blogging and then instead of using it as a journal, I will go back to what the blog used to be: discussions about specific topics, tales of adventures and random ramblings of mine. After all, life here at Balaton will probably be somewhat repetitive: Aisling working on her dissertation, me taking photos, both of us chopping wood, working on the garden, doing DIY projects, etc. Reading that on a daily basis gets repetitive, but don’t worry, I’ll still keep you updated, but how that happens is still to be decided…
