Day two of social distancing/self-isolation and Aisling is already questioning her life choices… Being stuck with me for two weeks is probably not the easiest and I’m enjoying the redneck DIY projects waaay too much! In a past life (if I believed in such BS) I was probably a handyman/park ranger/hunter.
Morning Routine
Establishing routines to give some structure to your day is important, even when there is no coronavirus to scare you into the boredom of your home. So, we decided to start off our days with meditation and yoga. It is bloody cold in the morning, but as the sun comes out, things warm up and it creates a beautiful start to the day. Unlike most people, I’ve been up before and around sunrise a lot due to my work, but actually stopping and appreciating a good sunrise is definitely something special.
Redneck Work
The house has a wood stove and with a cold snap coming this weekend, we need a lot more wood than what we had already. Luckily with a forest around us there were plenty of fallen down trees that could be collected, so Aisling and I spent most of the morning running around with a chainsaw, dragging big logs down to the house. Of course, we realized a little late that the chainsaw was completely falling apart, with a blunt chain. But we still managed to collect a huge pile of wood, ready to be chopped the next day.
We also started getting rid of some dried reeds and did a bunch of other work in the garden. I also started building a little structure to sit over the pile of woods. Why? Honestly, just because it seemed like a fun project.
Resupplies and Running
My Mom and Ati, my cousin came down to drop off a few supplies, pick up the Volvo and chat a little from a distance. It is pretty surreal to only be able to chat with your family from 5 meters away, but better safe than sorry. Everyone was in a good mood though and I honestly feel they envy us being here, because there is a lot more to do than in a flat in Budapest.
Aisling had an online class to attend, so I headed off on a late evening run through the forest, just after sunset, mostly with a headtorch. Wildlife encounters are frequent here, but at one point I bumped into a group of at least 25 deer running across a field. We had a bit of a staring contest and they ran on, into the woods… Quite surreal!
Conclusion
Well, one thing is for sure, we have enough projects around this property to last us well over two weeks and the place is awesome for my trail running training too, because I can run on empty trails around here without ever meeting anyone. Mobile internet is still fast enough, so Aisling can join her online classes and we are just having a great time so far. Will we get bored of it at some point? Probably… But we’ve just arrived!
