Q3: Living Here Is A Workout

Spending time at Lake Balaton for most people is associated with rest and relaxation. Aisling and I on the other hand have kind of turned it into a training camp… Day 3 was probably the most intense one here so far, with plenty of work and not a lot of rest!

After the usual morning yoga and meditation, it was time to break in the new chainsaw and chop up all the wood we gathered yesterday. While the saw does most of the work, cutting this much stuff is definitely an arm and back workout! But hey, we definitely won’t be cold when the weather gets worse, as it is predicted.

Workers of the world, unite! (at a safe distance of at least 2 meters)

Aisling has her own arm and back workout going on, in the form of an overgrown rock garden that needs to be pickaxed apart before it can be re-planted… Honestly, I think I have the easier job with the wood chopping.

In the evening, I decided to head out on the trail for the long run of the week, doing a total of 23.5 kilometers. Empty trails, a decent amount of elevation gain and beautiful weather, what more does one need? I was surprised by how much traffic there was on the roads and the villages seem pretty busy, considering it’s only April and things are usually quiet here even in the summer – but I think plenty of people decided to run away from Budapest to spend time in their summer homes here. It’s not like I was going to go near anyone just yet and ask. Social distancing and all that jazz. Needless to say, dead tired by the end of the day!

However you are spending these days, I hope you are safe and you get the chance to clear your head and relax a bit.
